Town Of Shelburne Sewage Plant Sludge Removal Begins
On Monday, November 7, 2017 Shelburne’s Sewage Plant began the labour intensive process of Sludge Removal. Shelburne Mayor, Ken Bennington, acknowledge the smelly inconvenience stated, ” The removal of the sludge at the sewage plant started today. It will get worse before it gets better…”, adding,”The smell from the sewage plant that had us all holding our breath in the spring of 2017 and the project to remedy the situation started yesterday. While that work is ongoing, the sludge being removed will produce an odour, that will likely be unpleasant. By doing this work in the late fall, it is our hope that this odour will be kept to a minimum now, in the hopes that we can all enjoy the fresh smells of spring 2018.”
On the upside, the situation, which is long awaited, will not have to be done again for likely another twenty years. Although inconvenient at the moment the process that will take a few weeks is not happening in the summer when the odour would actually be much worse. The Shelburne Freelancer will keep you updated.
