Personal Statement from Melancthon Mayor, Darren White:

“Former Mayor and Warden Bill Hill served our communities with distinction for more than 40 years as a member of Melancthon, Shelburne, and Dufferin County Council, the School Board and countless local committees. As the 125th Mayor of the Township, Bill holds the distinction of being our leader during some of the most tumultuous years in Melancthon fighting battles such as the Mega Quarry, Wind Turbines, and the Green Energy Act. Bill was a great mentor to those of us that came after him, and during difficult times would often reassure you with, “don’t worry, we’ll get through this”. And we always did. His passing will leave a void in Dufferin County.”

“Above Photos by Alex Sher taken in 2016 on a very happy day at Dufferin County Museum & Archives Celebrating Mulmur. (LtoR) Alma and Bill Hill) These photos are just one occasion where I had the pleasure of encountering Bill Hill and documenting the moment. On a personal note, Bill Hill often commented on how much he enjoyed The Shelburne Freelancer on line. When I first mentioned to him I thought I wold start the online news source, he wished me all the best success citing that he sees how the future is going and thought it was a great idea. Bill encouraged me, and I appreciated his kind words, to someone, not a dear friend, but media person who merely mentioned an idea, and I have heard from others that Bill was that way, enthusiastic, optimistic. I am grateful to have known him in the smallest capacity and it is with sincerest well wishes I extend his family my heartfelt condolences.” Alex Sher
