Concerned Shelburne resident, Alec Coles visited Shelburne Town Council during the April 9, 2018 meeting expressing serious concerns over proposed development planned on 603 Main St, East. The proposed site could be the location of approximately 58-60 new Town Homes. Coles, who lives on Main Street will see the the development in his back yard instead of the green space which is currently situated there and although not opposed to development, Coles expresses grave concerns over the entrances and exits onto Shelburne’s already very busy Main Street, and the worry of overcrowding in such a concentrated area. Coles also requested Council keeping drainage in mind as the Besley Drain runs along side the proposed development and Coles claims he experiences water in his basement already, wondering what affect this development will have on his property. .
Presenting a twenty minute speech to Council, Coles concerns did not fall onto deaf ears as Councillors promised to look into a series of matters involving Coles concerns. Coles expressed views and concerns for both himself and other neighbors who currently live on Shelburne’s Main St. East and have over the course of twenty years seen a lot of change in the Town Of Shelburne. In addition to Shelburne’s growth, Coles is concerned about future development actually changing the look and feel of what he refers to as a “lovely” community.
