Dufferin Mutual Insurance Company Announces $50,000 Pledge To  Headwaters Health Care Foundation

Dufferin Mutual Insurance Company Announces $50,000 Pledge To Headwaters Health Care Foundation
Shelburne, ON (March 27, 2018) –

As part of their 2018 Annual General Meeting, Dufferin Mutual Insurance Company announced today a 10-year, $50,000 commitment to support Headwaters Health Care Foundation. During the presentation to Headwaters Health Care Foundation, Ed Forbes, President &CEO, Dufferin Mutual Insurance Company remarked that as a corporate citizen for over 100 years, Dufferin Mutual is proud to partner with Headwaters Health Care Foundation and Centre for the betterment of the community in which they work and do business. Because the Ontario Government does not fund the purchase of medical equipment for hospitals, every piece of equipment used in the diagnosis and treatment of patients – from wheelchairs to delicate surgical instrumentation to monitors and x-ray machines – are purchased using funds donated by the community. Each year Headwaters Health Care Centre purchases about $2 million of new and enhanced medical equipment to serve the health care needs of the 135,000 men, women and children who live in Dufferin County and the surrounding areas. “This is a remarkable contribution; it allows us to make long term improvements at Headwaters Health Care Centre to enhance the diagnostic and treatment experience for everyone who turns to Headwaters for medical care”, said Peter Varga, Vice President of
Patient Services and Chief Nursing Officer. “On behalf of the thousands of people who utilize our community hospital each year, I give my heartfelt thanks to Dufferin Mutual Insurance
Company for this generous donation.”

Dufferin Mutual Insurance Company was founded in 1895 as a farm mutual and remains a
true ‘mutual’ today, owned entirely by its policyholders. The headquarters are still in
Shelburne, in the heart of the district it serves.
Things have changed in the last 100 years, and so has Dufferin Mutual. We are a fully
licensed multi-line insurer offering protection for property, automobile, and liability insurance
to over 5000 policyholders. However what has not changed is that we operate in your area –
we are your local insurer. As a corporate citizen for over 100 years, we continue to support
the community in which we work and conduct our business.
Headwaters Health Care Foundation is the fundraising arm of Headwaters Health Care
Centre. Our commitment is to help provide the best care, secure and maintain the best
partners, and to ensure the best health of our community.
Because the government does not provide funding for the purchase of new equipment, our
dedicated staff of five and our volunteer Board of Directors work within the community to
raise money to fill this gap. In order to provide the best care for our community, to attract the
best health care professionals and create the best partnerships with ‘outside’ specialty
centres, we are always working to invest in new and expanded technologies.
