Weekly Update from Shelburne Royal Canadian Legion President Lesa Peat full of important reminders, public information, update on upcoming activities, volunteers are always welcome, and special plea to help prevent the sale of Fiddle Park.
“My apologizes to those that have not seen this article in print lately, but unfortunately I was not informed that press deadline is on a Monday morning instead of a Tuesday morning. Happy Birthday to all of our June Comrades. Monday during the day we have open Euchre, please arrive by 1:30 p.m to register as play begins at 2:00 p.m. Monday evenings is Bingo Night in Shelburne, with a $1,000.00 jack pot, doors open at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday 12th our Ladies Auxiliary have their monthly meeting at 11:00 a.m. Thursday evenings is our Sports night with Euchre beginning at 7:00 p.m, pool, darts and crokinole are available. Friday June 15th is another Red Friday Wing Night, introducing “67 Band”. They play ALL Canadian music from 8 p.m – 12:00 a.m. Wings are open to everyone, but we ask that the children do not run around (the dance floor is for them) and that they must leave by 9:00pm. The baskets that the wings are served in are not disposable so Please Do Not Throw them out. Saturday June 16th we will be serving breakfast from 8 a.m – 11 a.m. Please remember the Streets will be closed around the Legion and that the Food Land parking lot is for their customers, so please walk up and enjoy the Car/Bike Show and all the Vendors for the Shelburne Street Festival. Happy Father’s Day to all of the Great Men in our lives on Sunday. Tuesday June 19th at 6:30 p.m is the first Executive meeting of the new term. I look forward to the new faces on the Executive. Thursday June 21st from 11:30 – 1:00 the Ladies will be having their last monthly Luncheon for the summer. They will be serving a Cold Salad Plate with Broken Glass for dessert for $8.00 each. June 23rd we will be going on a Legion Bus Tour, please arrive at the branch at 11 a.m for a 12 p.m departure. We will be visiting New Lowell, Angus and Lisle branches. Do not delay in signing up for this fun day, there are only 46 seats and we are 3/4 full. The cost is $20 per person. June 24th we will be taking our Veterans out for a day of fishing at Island Lake Conservation. Without sounding too repetitive, all Legions are run by Volunteers (except the staff). We have an amazing Volunteer base, but there is always room for more. If you or you know somebody who is interested in helping out please contact us at 519 925 3800. Monday June 18th there is another Town Council Meeting. This is the one where they vote on the sale of the Fiddle Park. Please come join me in the fight against the sale and come to that meeting at 7:00 p.m. There were a lot of people in attendance at the last one but there was still plenty of standing room left. Let’s show Strength in numbers again and fight for what we believe in,” Shelburne Royal Canadian Legion Branch 220, Lesa Peat.
