OPP LAY CHARGES AFTER TODDLER’S DEATH IN GRAND RIVER.
Investigation followed loss of Kaden Young
(DUFFERIN COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an Amaranth resident in connection with the drowning death of a young boy earlier this year.
On February 21, 2018 at approximately 12:52 a.m., a minivan was travelling southbound on the 10th Line of Amaranth Township when the driver failed to stop at a road closure sign and the vehicle was swept into the Grand River. A passenger in the minivan, three year-old Kaden Young, was subsequently lost in the fast flowing water. The child’s body was recovered on April 21, 2018.
Following a thorough investigation, the OPP has charged Michelle HANSON, aged 35 years of Amaranth with Impaired Driving Cause Death; Dangerous Driving Cause Death; and Criminal Negligence Cause Death. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on November 6, 2018.
Police will not comment on specific details of the allegations to protect the integrity of ensuing court process.
The OPP sympathizes with and expresses its heartfelt condolences to the family of Kaden YOUNG on his tragic loss. We also remember and recognize the many community residents and visitors who gave of their time to search for Kaden during the aftermath of this tragic incident.
